While many of us were sheltered in our comfortable homes during the pandemic, far removed from the worst of it, thousands of farmers, daily wage workers, and migrant laborers in rural India were left to battle the dual threats of the virus and poverty. With limited access to basic resources, they faced a dire situation—struggling to get food, medical supplies, and other essentials as the national lockdown halted movement and shut down industries.
In this crisis, we at Nabhangan Foundation took action. We distributed hundreds of ration kits, medicines, soaps, and sanitary napkins to the most affected communities in our adopted villages of Marathwada and the slums of Mumbai. Additionally, we provided PPE kits, masks, and sanitizers to health workers and the police in Aurangabad district.
Our relief work also reached migrant laborers, sex workers, and healthcare professionals in Mumbai. Volunteers, social workers, and partner NGOs were constantly on the ground, identifying and supporting those in need. Despite the challenges, we did everything we could to contribute to the national relief efforts.
Rural communities, especially in Marathwada, were disproportionately impacted by the pandemic due to poor access to healthcare, limited resources, and widespread unemployment.Although the immediate crisis has passed, the challenges faced by rural communities during the pandemic are still being felt. The need for continued support in areas such as healthcare, sanitation, and economic recovery remains critical. We continue to focus on strengthening these communities, ensuring that they are better equipped to face future challenges and recover from the hardships brought on by COVID-19.
